Drama

Our intent is to nurture an enjoyment and understanding of Drama through practical experience and to develop both subject specific and transferrable skills that empower students. We focus on encouraging teamwork, creativity, reflection and communication. We aim to engage students so that they are ready to learn and build confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.

Attainment

Students learn to work in a team and to take responsibility for their choices. They develop communication skills through listening respectfully to others and presenting their own ideas in a clear and constructive way. As students refine their practical performance skills, they develop confidence and faith in their own ability. Students learn how to use their voice and body to communicate ideas and emotions. Through the study of a variety of theatrical styles, plays and practitioners, students develop their creativity through experimentation and by expanding their repertoire.

Appreciation

Throughout the course students experience a wide range of theatrical material, both classical and contemporary. They learn how to analyse and evaluate live performances and how to interpret texts. Students are given an overview of the development of Theatre and historical context which allows them to consider how performances and texts have evolved as a response to societal changes and the influence of different cultures. This allows them to explore social issues and moral dilemmas whilst developing the appropriate vocabulary to express their own thoughts and opinions.

Reflection

Students are constantly encouraged to reflect on their own work and the work of others. They develop the ability to refine their performances based on teacher and peer feedback and they learn how to respectfully critique the work of their fellow students. This develops communication, understanding and empathy equipping them with important life skills. Our aim is to inspire students to develop inquisitive minds and teach them how to explore life through Art. We develop their understanding of the function of Drama in civilisation and how their experiences can allow them to have a positive impact in the world.
