Careers & Futures

Vision for careers within St Simon Stock Catholic School

We are the final step in the educational journey for our students before they enter the post-16 world where there is a rich variety of careers, training routes and qualifications to choose from. Careers guidance at St Simon Stock is designed to support our students to fully access all of these opportunities so they are able to make informed decisions about their future.

Students are exposed to subject specific careers information in their lessons with our staff providing a rich contextualisation of learning which includes how skills and passions they are developing within their subjects can be utilised in their future careers. Our Personal Development and Wellbeing (PDW) programme has embedded careers lessons which are delivered throughout the year. These enable students to learn about the world of work, develop interpersonal skills, investigate the local labour market and interact with representatives from higher and further education providers. We also enable students to speak to and learn from apprenticeship and traineeship providers.

We encourage students to immerse themselves in the world of work with structured work experience programmes for our Year 12 students. We also support work shadowing and utilise virtual work experience opportunities. Students are able to access these opportunities through regular updates on their year group Microsoft Teams. Where practical the school will work with student to support work experience placements where these placements fall outside of the timescale allotted to them.

Students are offered the opportunity to meet with a careers advisor. We work with CXK to provide every student with unbiased careers advice which supports students as they prepare for the next phase of education, training or employment so they can make a successful transition to their post-16 journey. We also ensure that students who have enrolled with us as their post-16 provider have access to the same level of support as they prepare for their next steps post-18.

We recognise that the provision of consistent, unbiased and varied careers guidance is a key stone of our overarching mission which is to provide all students with world-class education, opportunities and experiences as well as the time and space to discover, understand and pursue their true vocation. We equip our students with the tools to be able to recognise and realise their potential which will enable them to change the world around them for the better.
