Mathematics

Attainment

Our lessons enable students to become better at thinking logically and analytically. Students develop greater responsibility for their learning and are able to think creatively and strategically. A high-quality Mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. We want our students go onto to lead lives that can influence positive change for the future in the hope of making the world a better place. We endeavour for our students to be stimulated and challenged to empower them to be curious and take risks in their studies. We provide scaffolding and support to facilitate our students to become future thinkers and positively impact the world around them.

Appreciation

With Christ’s love at the centre of all that we do, students learn core knowledge, which can be applied to solving a wide variety of practical problems. Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to unlocking each child’s potential, discovering their talents and giving them the tools to succeed in everyday life. We aim to develop respect and an appreciation for the beauty and power of Mathematics.

Reflection

Our mastery curriculum shows students “the bigger picture” of Mathematics, allowing them to live their life to full. Lessons are adapted to suit the needs of all learners, and ensure that topic progression only occurs when students are ready to do so. Our philosophy is to understand and reflect upon the place of Mathematics in people’s lives. There are opportunities for students to consolidate connections across mathematical ideas. Mathematics is critical to science, technology and engineering (STEM). It is necessary for developing students’ use of formal mathematical knowledge to interpret and solve problems, including financial literacy.
