John Downton Awards 2024 Winner
There was much excitement, on the evening of Tuesday 26 November, at the County Hall for the annual John Downton Awards Evening.
We had 11 students shortlisted with their work on show. For most, this is the first time they’ve had their work displayed in a public art gallery, so there were many proud moments as they viewed the work with their families and friends.
This exhibition celebrates the creativity of Kent’s best young artists (11-18), inviting Kent schools and colleges to participate and exhibit the best examples of their painting, drawing, mixed media and photography.
There were media specific prizes in each of the two age groups, judged by an experienced panel, including the Head of Exhibition’s at the Turner Contemporary Gallery, Sarah Martin.
Drawing Award Winner
We are thrilled to congratulate Beatrice, who was awarded the prestigious Drawing Award at this year’s John Downton Awards in the 11–16 age category. This is a tremendous achievement, and we are incredibly proud of her talent and dedication!
The standard of entries this year was exceptionally high, making the achievement of being shortlisted truly remarkable. Well done to all our students—you’ve done our school proud!
The exhibition will remain open to the general public at the County Gallery, County Hall, Maidstone, until January 2025 between 10am & 4pm.
It is a wonderful celebration of young artistic talent, and we encourage everyone to visit and enjoy the inspiring work on display.
