Public Speaking Competition
On November 30, the Stocky team participated in the online regional heats of the ESU-Churchill Public Speaking Competition. Comprising 12 Year 11 students, they engaged in a strong competition against two opponents, showcasing excellent oracy and questioning skills. While Speaker Abigail, Chair Ifeanyi, and Questioner Oliver took the spotlight, it was undeniably a team effort. The remaining team members supported them admirably with research and writing, working diligently both beforehand and on the night.
The team's proposal was that 'one parent should stay at home to raise children.' They presented a well-planned, strategic argument delivered with eloquence and passion by Abigail, who also adeptly handled questions from the opposing team. Oliver led by asking pertinent and focused questions to the opposing team, while Ifeyanyi ensured smooth proceedings and adherence to the rules. In the background, the rest of the team kept spirits high, silently expressing exuberant cheers!
Although the team didn't advance, they made Stocky proud. Special congratulations to Oliver, who celebrated his 16th birthday on the night – an unconventional way to mark a Sweet Sixteenth but certainly a memorable one!
