Year 10 MidKent College Day
On Tuesday, 18 March, a group of Year 10 students from St Simon Stock Catholic School took an exciting step towards their future careers by attending an open day at MidKent College. This visit provided valuable insight into post-GCSE education and the diverse opportunities available to them.
The day began with a short walk to the neighbouring MidKent College campus at Oakwood Park, where students were warmly welcomed and introduced to a range of vocational courses through interactive workshops. These hands-on sessions allowed them to experience various career pathways first-hand.
In the Hairdressing workshop, students learned practical styling techniques, including braiding, while gaining an understanding of the skills required in the industry. Meanwhile, in the Motor Mechanics session, they explored car components, tested their knowledge by identifying parts, and examined the underside of vehicles to understand their mechanics and functions.
The Sports workshop provided an engaging insight into career options within the sports industry. Students explored potential career pathways linked to sporting qualifications and had the opportunity to test out gym equipment, experiencing the physical aspects of training and coaching roles.
In the Health and Social Care workshop, students explored the key skills needed for a career in healthcare and gained an understanding of the various roles within the sector and the qualifications required to pursue them.
The Plumbing workshop students learned about the importance of plumbing in construction and maintenance, as well as the career opportunities available in this essential trade.
The eSports workshop introduced students to the rapidly growing industry of competitive gaming. They explored career opportunities in game development, event management, and digital marketing while gaining insight into the skills required for success in this field.
The open day was both a fruitful and rewarding experience for students and staff alike. By engaging in these workshops, students were able to confirm existing aspirations or discover new possibilities for their post-GCSE journey. Whether reinforcing a chosen career path or sparking interest in a new direction, the visit proved invaluable in shaping their next steps.
As St Simon Stock Catholic School continues to support students in making informed decisions about their future, experiences like this play a vital role in broadening their horizons and encouraging them to Work with Love.
