Year 12 Biology students explore Ecology at Juniper Hall

From Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 January, our Year 12 Biology students embarked on an enriching field trip to Juniper Hall Field Studies Centre in Box Hill. This residential experience formed a crucial part of their A Level studies, enabling them to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world ecological investigations.

Throughout their stay, students engaged in a variety of ecology sampling techniques across diverse local habitats. They explored woodland, grassland, and freshwater ecosystems, collecting and analysing data to deepen their understanding of ecological concepts. Practical activities included quadrant sampling, mark-release-recapture methods, and abiotic factor measurements, all essential for the Practical Endorsement component of their A Level Biology course.

Beyond fulfilling curriculum requirements, the fieldwork provided valuable preparation for their written examinations. Students honed their investigative and analytical skills, gained hands-on experience with scientific equipment, and enhanced their ability to interpret ecological data—key competencies for success in their assessments.

The trip was not only academically enriching but also an opportunity for students to develop teamwork, resilience, and a greater appreciation for the natural world. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to learning beyond the classroom.

A huge thank you to the staff at Juniper Hall Field Centre for their expertise and guidance, and to our dedicated teachers for organising such a fantastic experience. We look forward to seeing our students apply their newfound skills in their upcoming studies!
